Mr Subir Mario Chowfin, BSc MSc

BSc and MSc in Forestry from the H.N.B. Garhwal University in Uttarakhand / The Gadoli and Manda Khal Wildlife Conservation Trust / The Gadoli and Manda Khal Biodiversity Conservation Project

I am an independent wildlife researcher and a field biologist. I was awarded with the Born Free Foundation Conservation Empowerment Bursary in 2005. I am also a member of the IUCN SSC Crocodile Specialist Group, the IUCN Working Group on Biodiversity Offsets (2014), and the IUCN WCPA Other Effective Area–based Conservation Measures (OECM) Specialist Group. I am a specialist on the critically endangered and endemic crocodile - the Gharial (Gavialis gangeticus). My work has spanned several protected areas in India which include PAs in the Western Ghat landscape, the Central India landscape and the Corbett landscape. Mywork has encompassed several species like tigers, leopards, the himalayan black bear, crocodiles and birds as well as research and conservation work in temperate mountain habitats in the Garhwal Himalaya in the western himalayan state of Uttarakhand in India.
